Sheila Holman has been in the Philly Families Read Together Program since September 2023. She takes care of her two grandchildren, who are in 5th and 6th grades at Comegys Elementary in West Philly. Sheila calls the weekly programming “fantastic.”
“I’m better connected to the school and to other grandparents. The digital literacy has been a help. And the kids have brought their grades up.”
While Sheila is personally grateful for the program, she wishes more grandfamilies could participate, so she urges people to take action.
“We really need this reading program for all children being raised by grandparents everywhere in Philadelphia. Whatever you can chip in makes a difference because this generation really is the future. By learning how to read better, they can achieve their dreams and their goals and make a difference in our communities.”
